WEEKEND SPORTS PREVIEW: BRIGG TO MEET BROUGHTON IN LOCAL DERBY

A busy weekend of sport is coming up for Brigg and district players - football having now joined cricket and the popular Parkrun.
Brigg Town FC players and fans will be travelling to Nostell Miners Welfare (near Wakefield) on Saturday afternoon (August 6) for the first team's second Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One fixture of the new campaign.
Brigg Town Development have a pre-season friendly against St Mary's AFC as they continue to prepare for the launch of the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier programme. This will be at Scawby Playing Field, West Street (2pm kick-off - free admission).
Broughton 2nds are to host Brigg Town in a Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Three West local derby (1pm start).
There's a chance of Broughton securing end-of-season promotion if their good form continues over the coming weeks, while Brigg need points tomorrow as they bid to climb off the foot of the table. With games in hand, collecting the proverbial wooden spoon can be avoided!
Mid-table Broughton 1sts journey to Barton Town in Division One tomorrow, while Hibaldstow visit Normanby Park in Division Two.
There will be a match to watch in Hibaldstow, where Scunthorpe Town 3rds will be playing Barton Town 2nds in Division Three West.
Sunday (August 7) will see Broughton 3rds at home to Outcasts 3rds in Mick Walker North Lindsey Cricket League Division Two (1.30pm).
The next Ancholme Valley Way Parkrun will be held tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 9am from beneath Brigg's Ancholme Way Bridge.
More than 100 competitors took part in last week's event - the 25th using the riverside course. View the full results from July 30 here...
