NEW BRIGG BARRIERS ON A1084 TO SEE TRAINS TODAY - PERHAPS FOR THE FIRST TIME
The newly-installed barriers at Brigg level crossing are expected to be used today (Monday, April 6) perhaps for the very first time.
The new lifting barriers replaced the old wooden gates as part of an installation spread over three weekends in March.
However, the installation came at a time of train staffing issues hitting the Saturdays-only passenger train service along the Brigg line. Freight trains are also few and far between at present on any day of the week.
Today, though, we understand the Brigg line via Gainsborough and Kirton Lindsey will become a diversionary route for freight trains while engineering works are taking place elsewhere.
Some freight trains running between West Burton, Doncaster and Immingham are expected to be switched to the Brigg line.
Drivers using the A1084 Bigby High Road and Bigby Road please note, together with Brigg residents who hear rumbles in the distance and wonder about the cause.
Further diverted freight trains may run through Brigg on other days.
