PLANNERS MUST NOW DECIDE WHETHER BRIGG GETS 8 NEW HOMES

Some reservations about parking provision were expressed when Brigg Town Council discussed a planning application to build eight town houses on the site of the former school canteen in Colton Street.
The town council is not lodging an objection to permission being granted. Indeed, it welcomes the development. But it has told North Lincolnshire planners, who have the final say on the application, of its concerns about traffic congestion in this part of town.
The Town Council says: "The area surrounding Colton Street already experiences many problems related to parking, particularly at school drop off and pick up times, and the Children's Centre and Youth Centre seem to already be lacking in suitable parking provision."
Coun Jane Kitching told the Town Council's Planning & Environment Committee there were existing concerns about parking.
Coun Jane Gibbons wondered whether it might be better to have fewer homes built on the land, allowing room for some off-road parking.
Committee chairman Coun Mike Storey concluded that car parking was the main issue.
North Lincolnshire Council planners now have this application "under consideration."

NOTE: The plans submitted to North Lincolnshire Council  show car parking provision being made within the site, as part of the proposed scheme. A blueprint drawing includes some vehicles parked outside houses.
