We went to the Brigg home of some friends over Christmas and really enjoyed sitting beside their real coal fire.
There's nothing quite like it - unless you have to clean one out, order and bring in the coal, sort the kindling, etc, etc.
Relatively few Brigg houses have coal fires now - partly due to Brigg Urban District Council's policy to install central heating in its council houses during the early 1970s.
