GOOD TO SEE MOBILE POLICE PATROLS IN BRIGG

It's been reassuring to see police vans touring parts of Brigg recently, including Spring's Parade and Cary Lane. The public always welcomes a touch of visible policing, while wrong-doers obviously take a different view.
We have been known to visit Brigg licensed premises from time to time, as you will be aware,  and over a pint the other night we were wondering how long it is since we saw regular late evening visits by the police to pubs and clubs throughout the town.
Sergeants used to take charge of these visits. They were masters of what  today we call man management. A careful word here and there, and even a laugh and a joke, could take the heat out of things before the drink got the better of people's frayed tempers.
The sergeants - often accompanied by a constable or two  - went round the pubs regularly. It  didn't take an incident.

......but that was the time when pubs closed at 10.30pm.......Priorities and focus change over the generations....I remember in my formative years that quite young kids being fined for not having a bell on a bike...or for playing football in the street...usually 2/6d..
In these days of austerity in police budgets, how many folks would prioritise pub patrols....?
