DEMOLITION OF BRIGG AREA PUB NOW ADVANCING

Demolition of an historic pub in the Brigg area is now advancing.
The back of the building has been taken down, but the frontage remains intact.
We drove past the old Railway Inn, on King's Road, Barnetby, several times over the festive period.

North Lincolnshire Council raised no objections, on planning grounds, to the pub's demolition.
A demolition method statement was submitted to the local authority.
The council has been told that the applicant proposes to redevelop the site for residential purposes.
It's a sad sign of the times that a village like this can no longer support two hostelries. But this reflects a national trend.
We have  connections with the Braithwaite family which ran the Railway Inn for more than 100 years until the late 20th century.
It is thought the Railway had been a pub since the 1850 - just a few years after the opening of the nearby station, which is still the largest in North Lincolnshire.
Barnetby's other pub, the Whistle and Flute, opposite the station, is still operating, serving drinks and meals.
We popped in recently to have a chat with the Flute's current landlady, Julie Frankish, who we know well from her time on the bar staff at the Black Bull, on Wrawby Street, Brigg.
