Several of these boards in Brigg town centre are in need of a bit of TLC. They tell visitors and tourists something about the the town's rich history. Though, clearly, space is very limited. This one is close to the main Old Courts Road car park in a spot where it can be read by newcomers to town who have just parked.

BRIGG HISTORY BOARDS SHOWING THEIR AGE

These maps need redesigning, not just refurbishment.
There is much more history that could be included.....and the present info needs improving to reflect accuracy - ie Brigg fairs/markets did not start with the King John's Charter - there is evidence that such activities were being pursued about the bridge area in 1085, or before....the Charter was imposed to benefit John, re tax - King Richard had bankrupted the country only a few years earlier and both Kings are acknowledged to have been particularly concerned with their own personal wealth and thus, exploited the poor and their landowners..
Both the Toll Board and the Brigg History Map have been removed from the wall of the Chinese take-away, China Garden.
I understand that these boards were placed there by the Civic Society some years ago....I hope someone from Brigg TC has spoken to the present owners of the take-away; explained what is going on and has sought permission & that the owner agrees that the boards can be re-erected.
Certainly, I'd get annoyed if someone just seemed to come along - remove boards and then screw new ones back up on my property wall.
