HEALTHY WALKS FOR BRIGG FOLK

North Lincolnshire Council is encouraging people in Brigg to take part in the Walking the Way to Health initiative that aims to get people out and about.
The scheme has been very successful so far, with some of the walks having over 60 people attending.
Being physically active on a regular basis can significantly improve your health and fitness. Walking is ideal for building exercise into your everyday life. It is also a perfect way to see the natural environment around you.
Regular walking can help improve people’s confidence, stamina, energy levels, weight control, immune system and life expectancy.
Walking can also help to reduce the risk of strokes, high blood pressure, stress and anxiety; coronary heart disease, bowel cancer, arthritis and poor sleep patterns.
Everybody is welcome to join any of the free walks that are always relaxed and friendly. There is no need to book – just turn up on the day.
There is a wide range of walks every week at different locations in North Lincolnshire, including Normanby Hall Country Park and Brigg. There is also storytelling walks that take place with North Lincolnshire Libraries.
Some of the walkers that have taken part have said:
The timetable of walks is available from council receptions, local libraries, links offices and tourist information centres or can visit www.northlincs.gov.uk/NorthLincs/Leisure/walks for more information.
Brigg’s Coun Rob Waltham (PICTURED), cabinet member for Adult and Children’s Services, said: “We are committed to supporting the Walking the Way to Health scheme. It provides fantastic benefits and it is a great way to meet new people, see the countryside and get fit.
“The walks - led by at least two trained volunteer walk leaders - are proving really successful.
“In fact we need more volunteers. If you are interested please call 01724 297631 or email christine.johnson@northlincs.gov.uk. Free training and support is available for anyone interested.
“So why not make a difference to someone’s life and become a volunteer.”

Do you think that Cllr Rob W. has a slight resemblance to Humphrey Bogart, Scribs?
