BIN UPDATE

North Lincolnshire Council's latest public information

A decision will be made on a day-by-day basis as to whether we can resume collections after an assessment of the weather conditions has been made.
All brown bin collections have now been suspended until the New Year to allow us to collect the general waste bins we were unable to collect last week.
Unfortunately we will not be able to return to collect the burgundy bins that we were unable to service last week. Please put your burgundy bin out on your next scheduled collection date. No excess can be collected.

NF adds: Most of us in Brigg didn't even bother to put out our burgundy bins (plastics and cardboard) yesterday, knowing the council wouldn't be round to collect. As the side roads aren't being cleared, it was obvious collection vehicles wouldn't make it. BBC Look North did a good, balanced report tonight about postal deliveries not getting through, even filming folk going along to the Brigg sorting office to collect their mail in person. Festive favourite "elf and safety" (footpaths and roads) was given as the reason for deliveries not being undertaken, which all of us had guessed.
Tonight's talking point: Failure to clear the thoroughfares has a knock-on effect on other services. Discuss.

I have just spoken to the council as our bins in central square have not been emptied since week last tuesday and they now tell me it will be next tuesday before they are touched! now this is another 6 days away. the bins are already full and bags collecting outside the back door. the weather has been bad but over the last few days have improved and around our area we have not seen any effort from the council to clear any area of our paths or roads. Every year we have this problem and they say they will sort things out for the following year but do they? no is the answer. what exactly do we pay council tax for. I 'm sure its not just to clear the council offices car park!!

I'm sure the council car parks are clear . But on the other hand how many able boddied people were snowed in last week and sat indoors for 3 days complaining about the lack of gritters etc.
I for one have cleared my drive , the ( council ) path outside my house , the ( council ) road outside my house along with the mothers paths , the mother inlaws paths and am now heading down the rest of the street . I'm hardly a dogooder but it staves off the snow madness and what better way to let off steam than attacking the snow and ice . I may be cracking up, but remember the 33 chilean miners , one of them ran around the tunnels dragging a pallet on a piece of rope behind him for 69 days ! My hero .
Have Spade will Shovel is my motto.

PS. Not a good idea to leave your bins on the grass verge near the road . Then shovel half the streets snow off the road onto the verge . Then have overnight temperatures of -15 degrees Centigrade .

Note to council :- Bring pick axe to extract bins from man made snow drifts.......

i agree is some parts as yes I also did the good deed of clearing my car out and others and even went driving around with a friend who has a 4 x 4 to pull people out of there stranded situation, but there are things that we shouldnt need to put up with, I'm not sure on your situation but next tuesday when my bin gets emptied it would have been 4 WEEKS since last been done. I have just learnt that Briggs gritters and diggers were apparently sent to scunthorpe to help them out. err surely if this is correct this is very wrong? I like everyone else pay for service and expect this to be carried out. hopefully when the snow and ice go all be will be back to normal, all i ask is that the council look at this and learn for next time.

Little Lane (circa 200 yards - about 10 houses) in Wrawby was awash with 2 feet of snow.
The next day and the days that followed neighbours were out initially clearing the snow and subsequently keeping the lane clear of the after-effects of the regular blizzards.
The average age of the snow clearers - 68 - I was one of the youngest. (including 2 x heart probs, diabetics and etc.)

I agree with GMSmithy- why are other roads in the district like driving on pack-ice - what's their average age population?

Similarly, I would like to establish whether NLC staff car-p(e)rks were given priority for snow clearance - re Viewpoint letter in
to-day's ST (also on-line in the ST's web-site.
I apologise, in advance, for being cynical, but there's senior citizens about Brigg and district who are unable to get out of their properties
