TREE WORK PLANNED

Ancholme Rowing Club, whose HQ is on Manley Gardens beside the Old River Ancholme, is seeking planning permission to carry out work to an ash tree within the Conservation Area.
The club says it seeks to keep the tree in good order but some branches are very close to the boathouse - and it has a strong junior section and is very aware of safety on the site 'as the tree covers a large area'.
Brigg Town Council has been consulted by North Lincolnshire planners, as part of the process, and raised no objections.

ASH - Genus ?Fraximus....used for making spears!!! This time of year the twigs have distinctive black buds on silvery branches.

Not to be confused with Mountain Ash - Genus Sorbus - sometimes called Rowan...being a sentilmentalist, I always plant one in my garden, Rowan, being the second name of my son.

I can remember when the new boathouse was being built. The engineers had to put supporting piles down thro' various decaying layers of leaf/flora mold about 30 feet (cica 9m) until they found a solid foundation.

If it wasn't for the river, the Ancholme Valley could be a massive source of peat compost!!!
There is a localised area of metal ore in the Ancholme....near Tesco and the ore comes complete with wheels!!!
