BRIGG WEATHER WATCH

The weather will be the main talking point in Brigg today. There's no doubt about that.
The  temperature at 8.30am was only 4C, according to one online source. And it feels even lower than that, due to the chill of a brisk northerly/north-easterly wind. Dry, though, with a cloudless sky at present.
A day-time temperature of 4C is very low for  November 5 - Bonfire Night.
Many Brigg families will be letting off fireworks in their gardens tonight. Expect heavy demand in the shops for soup, bread rolls and sausages. Hot dogs will be very apt if the weather stays this cold.
It's not many years since the Brigg area suffered a decent snowfall during November, but that was at the very end of the month.
The earliest snowfall we can remember was in 1971 when it snowed on November 20.
If Brigg Blog sticks to the plan of going down to Sir John Nelthorpe School this afternoon to take some action pictures at the Briggensians FC home game, it's going to be a cold one!
Similarly, cold weather can put deter some people from venturing out to the shops and visiting Brigg pubs.

True Nige....there's too much weather about...I blame the government.
I think the EU is sending their surplus to the UK as punishment for Brexit. I must speak to Cllr Rob Waltham to see whether we can get some rainstorms diverted to Scotland....they need them to grow haggis and since they all wear kilts, puddles won't soak their trouser bottoms.. so it's a win-win for everyone.

I've experienced snow storms in July, Nige....ok, so I was atop a Scottish mountain.
Our mountains are comparatively small compared with other mountain ranges around, but because of our northern latitude, the weather on top of a mere 3000' mountain can become Arctic conditions...a situation that can fool unwary walkers who decide to climb Snowdon wearing high heels and a T-shirt.....I've seen it done. In my misspent youth, one New Year's Day, a group of us were at the trig point on Scafell Pike in a complete snow whiteout. Chomping our Mars Bars, we became aware of muffled noises and discovered a guy in shorts, vest and soft shoes...we put him inside a sleeping bag and carried him off the mountain.
