May we wish all Brigg Blog's follows a very happy Lincolnshire Day.
For our proud old county's national day is October 1.
It has become a celebration of all that's best about Lincolnshire, including our wide range of top-class produce, including sausages.
We'll be looking out our green and yellow Lincolnshire County Cricket Club tie - the one we wear when umpiring cricket matches in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League.
But we will leave Yellow Belly waistcoats to others...
We assume it's OK for those of us who were cast aside from Lincolnshire by local government reorganisation in 1974 to celebrate "our" day on October 1.
Humberside County Council was formed 41 years ago, being replaced in 1996 by North Lincolnshire Council (what they call a unitary authority).
However, Lincolnshire County Council still serves what's left of the old county. The border is closer to Brigg than some might realise. Go down to the end of Westrum Lane and you cross into traditional Lincolnshire. The same applies when you get to Brigg Garden Centre, on Bigby High Road - Bigby Parish, West Lindsey District, "old" Lincolnshire.
We aren't aware of a North Lincolnshire Day. Perhaps North Lincolnshire Council might take a look at that. It could be used to market all that's good about our area, stretching from Haxey in the west to Killingholme in the east, and from Redbourne north to Barton and Alkborough.
