Review of Christmas 2018 and Spring 2019

FROM BRIGG TOWN BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

The Brigg Town Business Partnership is delighted to report the success of two major events held at the end of 2018.
The Brigg Tree of Light was held in Chapel Court between November 17th and January 5th and provided comfort to those who are bereaved, lonely or struggled to get through Christmas. Through the sale of memory cards, raffle tickets and donations a total of £1,744.12 was raised which includes £170 donated from the production of ‘The Gift’ by Churches Together held in CafĂ© Courtyard in December.
As a result, £872.06 was presented to both the charities that the event supports – Brigg Carers' Support and Cure DM.
The Partnership would like to extend thanks to all who supported the event and also to the sponsors – Co-operative Funeral Care (Brigg);  J Naylor Funeral Directors; Nisa Store – Brigg; Switched Positive Electrical Contractors Ltd; Scunthorpe Rotary Club and Mr Rowbottom for allowing the use of Chapel Court.
The Tree of Light will be held again this year from Saturday November 16th 2019 until Saturday January 4th 2020.
The Brigg Festival of Christmas Trees and Wreaths was held for the second  year at St John’s Church, and again was a hugely successful event with more trees and wreaths on display together with an increase in the number of visits, not only to the event but to the town. A preview evening and  Town Carol Service which brought the Festival to a close were both exceptionally well attended. A total of over £700 was raised for the Church Fabric Fund together with a donation of £ 130 being made to The Barnetby Silver Band.
Due to the success of the event, it will run over two weeks in 2019 with the dates it will be open to the public being Thursday December 12th to Sunday December 15th and then Thursday December 19th to Sunday December 22nd. As in previous years, the Festival will end with a Town Carol Service on December 22nd at 2.00pm. Further details regarding opening times etc will be published later in the year.
The Partnership is now busy looking towards the Spring and Summer of 2019 with the first date for your diary being The Blessing of the Pumps which will take place on Saturday May 8th between 10.00am and 1.00pm.
