BRIGG FOOTBALLERS WIN IMPORTANT PROMOTION CLASH

Brigg footballers improved their chances of gaining promotion yesterday with a very welcome local derby win against one of their rivals.
Briggensians FC beat Barnetby United Reserves 2-1 at Sir John Nelthorpe School in division three of the TSW Printers Scunthorpe & District Football League.
On the mark for the Brigg side were Stuart Briscoe and Phil Cole.
Briggensians continue to top the table, having gained 23 points from nine games.
Second are unbeaten Shape Changers with 21 points from seven.
Barnetby are third with 18 points from nine fixtures, being level on points with AFC Queensway.
Briggensians and Barnetby Reserves will meet again this Saturday, January 21, at the village's Silver Street ground, KO 2pm.
Yesterday saw Barnetby's first team beaten 6-0 when hosting Brumby in a Carousel Hospital Cup round one tie.
Brumby are sweeping all before them this season and lead division one with a 100 per cent record after seven fixtures.
Barnetby are mid-table.
We gather Barnetby keeper Lee Fielden, the club secretary and former Brigg Town Cricket Club batsman, saved a penalty in yesterday's cup-tie.
On Saturday, January 21 Barnetby's first team will be visiting Scunthonians in a league game.
