It wasn't just the town centre that was blitzed: On Saturday morning we saw someone in an official bib picking up litter along St Helen's Road.
North LIncolnshire Council estimates that across the entire district, around 400 bags of rubbish were collected after over 200 people came together to Clean for The Queen.
The council played its part in encouraging local people and community groups to rally together and do their bit.
Around 20 community groups signed up to take part in the big clean-up; of those 15 took part during the big clean-up weekend, the rest have clean-up events planned later in the year.
Litter picks took place in Brigg, Barton-upon-Humber, Bonby, Scunthorpe, Saxby All Saints, Crowle, Haxey and Low Burnham and Wrawby.
This campaign was launched by Country Life magazine in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy to clear up Britain in time for The Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016.
The aim is to inspire a million people to take action and enjoy a few hours together litter picking to make the places where they live more enjoyable and instil a sense of pride in their communities.
All the litter charities across the country came together to support the campaign. Also, a growing range of companies, land managers and associations and councils signed up to support it, including North Lincolnshire Council.
The council coordinated events to ensure that activities are programmed into the national events. Officers have engaged with community groups, schools, charities and town and parish councils.
If every adult picked up just one piece of litter and put it in a bin, that would be more than 50 million pieces of rubbish disposed of. Imagine if everyone picked up at least one piece of litter every day for the next nine months.
Coun Neil Poole, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The council already supports a number of clean-up initiatives but Clean for The Queen is quite unique as communities led on their own clean-ups.
“We received a lot of interest from community groups across North Lincolnshire who wanted to take part and focus on certain areas. We have fantastic community spirit in North Lincolnshire, which was obvious this weekend when they all pulled together to clear up their communities.
“They all did an amazing job and hundreds of bags of rubbish were collected and many groups managed to recycle some of the rubbish found. It sounds like some unusual items were found along the way as well, including fly-tipped items such as a toilet, TVs and tyres, which we will be collecting.”
