NOTHING CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO THIS INTERESTING TRIP PICKING UP IN BRIGG

A day trip picking up in Brigg will prove of interest to many foodies, cooks and history lovers  in our area.
On Friday 19th February there will be a visit to the Wakefield Food and Rhubarb Festival.
Visit the popular rhubarb forcing sheds where it is growing by candlelight.
Learn about the history of rhubarb growing and eating over thousands of years.  
Then visit the Wakefield Food, Drink and Rhubarb Festival held in the Cathedral Precinct.  
The cost is   £22 for Women’s Institute members and  £25 for non-members.  
The price  includes coach travel, with  pick-ups in Grimsby, Brigg and Scunthorpe.

My old Mum use to say that rhubarb gave you a good run for your money!
While we're talking about laxatives, the Leeds-Wakefield area may have the The Rhubarb Triangle.....but in the C17th, Brigg has been documented as having widespread plantations of liquorice..
Perhaps we should re-invent ourselves and make Brigg Cakes (cf Pontifract) and sell them at Sankey's...that should prove a good run!
