CHELSEA v SCUNTHORPE – A FEW BRIGG GIANTKILLING REFLECTIONS & CONNECTIONS

Many Brigg folk will be going down to London tomorrow to watch Scunthorpe United play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup (2pm KO).
Paul Hayes, who scored for the Iron on this famous ground when the sides last met 10 years ago, lived in Brigg for a time during his Scunthorpe days.
When the Iron recorded a giantkiller win at Newcastle United in 1958, Barry Horstead, from Brigg, was in the Scunthorpe squad.
Scunthorpe's team which pulled off a 1970 FA Cup upset away to top-flight Sheffield Wednesday included Mick Atkin, who was a teacher at what's now the Vale Academy. He played for Scunny on a part-time basis.
If you aren't going to the match tomorrow and don't have a subscription to BT Sports, which is showing the game on TV, some local pubs have paid their dues. So why not pop along and cheer on the Iron?
