FLUSHED WITH SUCCESS ON BRIGG STREETS

REPORT AND PICTURES BY KEN HARRISON

On a number of occasions recently, Anglian Water have been flushing the mains fresh-water pipe at the junction of Grammar School Road with Redcombe Lane.
According to the operatives, the valve is a stop valve - a purposely installed sump-like device to allow sediment in the water pipes to collect.
There is a need to flush the stop-valve as necessary work to the main water pipes in nearby Ash Grove is scheduled to start this week.
Anglian Water's work is part of the planned improvement scheme to the roads on the estate.

Discoloured sediment in the water, which is being flushed out...

......the other obvious comment is that the flushing has to be undertaken on frost-free days....otherwise .....slippy-slides happen.....
