A stroll past Brigg’s Atherton Way/Redcombe Lane allotments reminded us of the hymn about all being safely gathered in before the winter storms begin.
On a perfect autumn afternoon, with a low sun in the sky, we found no allotments holders on the site, but some chickens about and what looked from a distance like cabbages yet to be harvested.
The sign on the gate asks visitors to Keep Out – access only being for those renting plots.
These allotments, and others off Grammar School Road (near the motorway flyover) are run by Brigg Town Council.
Last time we checked there was quite a waiting list for plots. But if you are interested and wish to join the queue, we suggest emailing enquiries@briggmarkettown.co.uk
