ENJOY A PADDLE IN BRIGG

Many people enjoy using the River Ancholme - Old and New stretches - in various ways at different times of the year.
Pleasure uses include cruising (Glanford Boat Club, Island Carr), rowing (Ancholme Club, Manley Gardens), canoeing and kayaking (Glanford & Scunthorpe Club, Ancholme Leisure Centre), pleasure and match angling (individuals and various groups) and even supervised swimming in suitable attire to keep out the cold (Lincsquad events on the New River Ancholme).
All these have featured in Brigg Blog posts over the years. But now we can add another to the list... paddle boarding.
While out for a cross-town stroll as far as Ancholme Leisure Centre and the Waters Edge housing estate on Saturday afternoon (January 25) we spotted this enthusiast.
He approached us from the direction of the leisure centre, passed under Cake Mills Bridge and went down towards the boat club before returning up river.
Despite it being winter, conditions seemed ideal with little or no breeze to hamper his progress.
So now we can confirm: rather than visiting Cleethorpes, Skegness or Mablethorpe you can enjoy a paddle right here... in Brigg!
