CONSULTATION ON BRIGG PARKING

North Lincolnshire Council is consulting with the residents of Albert Street, Brigg, over a possible residents' parking scheme.
Councillor Nigel Sherwood, Cabinet Member for Highways and Neighbourhoods at the unitary authority, imparted the news during the latest meeting of Brigg Town Council, held in the Angel; Suite.
There have been complaints from some residents about Albert Street being used for parking by people who work in Brigg town centre businesses.
This is making it difficult for residents of the street, where some homes do not have space for garages.

The on-street parking dilemma in Albert St has been fluctuating for years....in the past, on-street parking was exacerbated by NLC from Hewson House using the street - now NLC levels have been reduced and the present predicament appears to be related to the closure of the old Lidl's car park....workers are seeking free parking and are now displaced to Albert St....
The blockade to the old Lidl's car park has been recently removed and now some folks have resumed their practice of parking in the 'free' car park...this will not last once the store is reinvigorated.
(Can I make the educated assumption that the barrier was initially established on the advice of the Tesco legal department to avoid a potential challenge that the car-park has become public thro' custom & practice... However, Anglian Water needs access to the clean-out the nearby sewage pump and while Tesco have a legal right to ban access, the potential financial cost/damages of unserviced sewage pump becoming blocked and therefore allowing raw sewage to contaminate the area + the Ancholme, the removal of the barrier is the lesser of two evils.)
Overall, there is a need for Brigg to have an additional long-term car-park aimed at town-based workers. Perhaps the car-park at the Ancholme Leisure Centre could be considered...or even the car-park in the Rec Ground.....
