COUNCIL LOOKS INTO OVERNIGHT LORRY PARKING IN BRIGG

Overnight parking by HGVs in Brigg's main car park is being looked into by North Lincolnshire Council.
This is a long-running issue, as regular readers of our Blog will know.
Many people who have visited that area of town in the evening will have seen lorries, generally parked  on the edge of the car park near the rear of the police station.
The Old Courts Road area is designed to be a car park - not something used by lorries.
Access to Old Courts Roads for high-sided vehicles has to be permitted because of deliveries to various business premises in the town centre. So a barrier near the exit from the traffic lights is not the answer.
"We have asked for enforcement officers to visit Old Courts Road car park following reports of car transporters parking there overnight," said Couns Carl Sherwood, Nigel Sherwood and Rob Waltham in their monthly report as the Brigg & Wolds representatives on North Lincolnshire Council, which manages car parking and highway matters.
Their report was compiled for Brigg Town Council's monthly meeting in the Angel Suite on Monday night. Rob, Nigel and Carl are members of both councils.
If you were thinking a height barrier at the entrance/exit to the car park  might be one solution, we will point out that HGVs which have delivered to the rear of Brigg business premises sometimes drive right round the perimeter of the car park to turn round, which saves them having to reverse  a long distance back along Old Courts Road to the lights.
It will be interesting to see how, in terms of enforcement, North Lincolnshire Council approaches this issue.
The lorry drivers who park up overnight in Old Courts Road are potential customers for fast food outlets and other businesses in Brigg. If the drivers are discouraged from using the main car park, will they compete for space with many others near the old Lidl store? Or will they just give Brigg a miss and find a location outside the town?
