BRIGG COURTYARDS - A LINK TO OUR PAST


Here are some pictures of historic courtyards in Brigg town centre.
They are in the spotlight at present as plans are considered to add arches to direct people to the town centre from the Old Courts Road car park.
The image above shows one of Brigg's newcomers, Costa Coffee, to the left.
The courtyards, in the 19th century and early 20th century, led to housing where most of the population lived. 
Many people were rehoused on the Newlands estate in the 1930s.
Only one courtyard is now lived in, and its homes have been tastefully restored.

It's funny how religious buildings incorporate pagan symbols...as seen in pic 2, the Green Man - the male interpretation of Mother Nature - embellishes the facade of the old Baptist chapel...not just once but ?8 times.
