BRING BACK DOUBLE TRACK ALL THE WAY ALONE THE BRIGG RAILWAY LINE

A suggestion that the single-track sections of the Barnetby-Brigg-Sheffield railway line should be restored to double-track has been made to the Parliamentary Transport Committee.
The call came from Coun Chris Shaw, the leader of North East Lincolnshire Council.
He told the committee, which is taking evidence about Investing in the Railway, that when the Scunthorpe line was out of action because of the Hatfield landslip, they could not run enough trains out of the area because the remaining lines were incapable of doing it.
He added: "We need to see lines that have been singled go back to being doubled in order to cope with both the freight levels and the passenger levels that we have, but it seems to have dropped out of the loop, because it does not come under Rail North; it goes into the east midlands. We need to look at the best way of routeing the freight coming out of Immingham docks and having the capacity to do that."
