WHICH BRIGG SIGNS COULD WE DO WITHOUT?

FROM NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

North Lincolnshire Council is planning to explore the opportunities for transforming the street scene in North Lincolnshire to cut costs, get rid of complicated signs and make the area look tidier.
This follows recent guidance from the Government that focuses on the need to reduce sign clutter to make road safety messages clear, improve our landscapes and save taxpayers’ money.
The guidance gives us the chance to get rid of unwanted and unnecessary signs and to design signing schemes to reduce clutter on the landscape.
Not only will we look at street signs; traffic signals and barriers will also be considered when looking at the North Lincolnshire landscape.
This will influence current key council documents, such as the highway development guide and planning style guides to make sure that the future transformational changes are made.
Coun Rob Waltham, of Brigg, Deputy Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This new Government guidance has opened up the opportunities available for tidying up our street scene. We do have some ideas in mind; however we have to look into the potential and possibilities of these before a final decision is made.
“We want to make North Lincolnshire clutter free and easy to navigate around. Quite often signs can become confusing, especially for visitors who are not used to the roads.
“The beautiful North Lincolnshire landscape should not be affected by too many road signs, signals and barriers. We want to help secure the transformational changes for the future.
“More responsibility will be put onto drivers and pedestrians to consider their own safety if changes are  implemented to signs across our communities.”

NIGEL FISHER ADDS: There is a 'warning - school ahead' triangular sign on Glebe Road, long after the educational facility closed. We've checked today - it's a bit faded but clearly needs removing. Secondly,  near the Methodist Church car park and Old Courts Road traffic lights, there's a sign pointing the way to Brigg Resource Centre. Underneath is some wording the council might like to look at before deciding whether this sign should be removed or amended.

'Accomodation' x 2 and
'Isnt'
plus the Brown tourist signs on outskirts of Brigg telling fibs and showing that there are boat trips on the Ancholme.....unless,of course, there are boat trips..
ONE WAY traffic arrows in Wrawby St...why are they there when it's allegedly traffic-free.
It's like having a No Smoking policy and then putting ashtrays on the table.

Some road signs are so blanched, they look like white rectangles..in the meantime, 'Teszel t and Alton lui :)' graffiti has conspicuously remained on the BTC's Angel Suite wall for several years..if it's not removed soon, it will become a listed structure...
