After two successive three goal league defeats at home against strong opposition, Brigg Town were looking for an improvement against Sheffield FC but again failed to gain any points from a disappointing performance.
The visitors showed their confidence from the kick-off and Ashley Longstaff struck a shot just wide after two minutes. Brigg responded with a left wing break from which Nathan Plumtree tried to chip goalkeeper Jake Eastwood, who saved comfortably. The opening goal came after twelve minutes when MICHAEL ONOVWIGUN was left the simple task of tapping the ball into the back of the net from six yards out after Warren Burrell fed the ball into the penalty area from the left wing. Jody Barford played really well again in the Brigg goal and was called upon to make another couple of saves from the dangerous Ashley Longstaff. Brigg enjoyed plenty of possession and looked capable of getting something from the game but unfortunately they never managed to trouble Sheffield 'keeper Jake Eastwood - who had an easy afternoon. In comparison, Sheffield always looked dangerous in quick breaks, particularly with James Gregory on the left wing - and just before the half time break, Ashley Longstaff connected with a long throw-in from Kieran Walker to send another shot inches wide.
Sheffield opened up strongly in the second half and, James Gregory made a great forward solo run from his own half down the centre of the pitch right into the Brigg penalty area but had no strength in his shot at goal which was picked up by Jody Barford. Brigg continued to enjoy plenty of possession but all their moves lacked penetration. Still trying to get something from the game, the result was virtually settled five minutes from time when Sheffield scored again. RICK STRRUP - on as substitute for captain Michael Roney seven minutes earlier - followed up with a shot into the roof of the net from twelve yards out after Warren Burrell's header from a free kick came back off the bar right on to his foot.
