Plenty of other Brigg premises also stock ice cream and you can buy one on Sundays from the Sargent's van in the car park at Riverside Surgery, off Barnard Avenue.
It was a rare treat in the 1960s to get a cornet or tub from the Sargent's ice cream van when it toured our Brigg housing estate. That was when Sargent's was operating from it original base in Hibaldstow.
Clearly the days of the threepenny (pre-decimalisation) cornet are long gone.
The Sargent's driver used to ring an old-fashioned, hand-held bell to alert local kids.
When Mr Whippy, Mr Softee (and others) came on the scheme their vans played tinkling music, e.g. I Love to go A-wandering.
National Ice Cream Month orginated in the USA but is promoted online by the International Dairy Foods Association.
We were alerted to this being National Ice Cream Month by a Twitter alert yesterday from Uncle Henry's farm shop, butchery and cafe at Grayingham. (Well worth a visit).
"Why not come and enjoy a scoop of local Blyton ice cream this weekend?" they suggested.
When Brigg Town Cricket Club played Blyton in the North Lindsey (Sunday) League many years ago, we used to take our kids along and sometimes walk from the ground to the renowned village ice cream parlour to get them a cornet each.
Blyton back then was an old-fashioned rural cricketing venue and Brigg loved going there.
The playing strip was not very good and the changing facilities extremely basic but the the club could not have been more hospitable towards visiting teams and served wonderful teas on licensed premises in the centre of the village. Happy days!
Brigg connections abound at Uncle Henry's, including our old hockey club mate Steve Ward and some of the staff. Can you spot them through this link?
