BRIGG FOLK WELCOME TO COMMENT ON PLANS FOR SCUNTHORPE MARKET

Brigg has enjoyed permission to hold a fair and a market since the beginning of the 13th century.
Scunthorpe's has been going since the early 20th century, and many Brigg shoppers pay it a visit if they are in the centre of the steel town - Brigg Blog included.
Brigg's Coun Rob Waltham, as leader of North Lincolnshire Council, tells us that folk across the area still have a chance to have their say on the regeneration of Scunthorpe Market
Residents continue making comments until Wednesday 25 October to tell North Lincolnshire Council what they think about plans to improve Scunthorpe Market. The council extended the consultation to seven weeks by giving shoppers and traders more time to have their say.
Shoppers and traders are being asked to give their views on a variety of topics including their current usage of the market, what types of market they would like to see in the town, where they feel the best location for a market is and what is most important to them in a market service. These views will then be considered to determine a plan of investment for Scunthorpe market.
This all forms part of the council’s ambitious £60m plans to transform Scunthorpe town centre, the local authority says.
If you haven’t yet given your views, you can do so online by completing the survey at www.northlincs.gov.uk.current-consultations
Coun Waltham, pictured above, is keen to get as many comments as possible.
He said: “I recognise that the market is an important part of the local community and that is why we want to invest and improve it. We have already invested in Ashby Market to provide a new-look market in a better location on Broadway, which opens on Thursday 2 November.
“I am keen to hear residents’ views. That is why I extended the consultation to give people more time. I appreciate this is something that will impact on lots of people – traders, existing customers and potential new ones.
“I have been meeting with and working with traders and will continue to do so as part of the consultation.
“Once the consultation ends, we will need to analyse the results of the survey and this will help decide where we go from there. There are no pre-conceived ideas – we will look at the options and determine which is the most feasible, taking into account all comments.
“The market improvements is part of our plans to improve and invest in the town centre.”
