BRIGG SATURDAY SHOPPING REFLECTIONS

The first thing to report today (Saturday, February 13) is that the pedestrian crossing lights near J. D. Wetherspoon's White Horse pub are out of action YET AGAIN.
Such failures continue to happen time  but no explanation about the cause has been forthcoming.
We are sure all  users of this important crossing point on the busy A18 will share our hopes that a lasting fix can be employed d this time.
As we've said before, the crossing being out of action makes things particularly difficult for the elderly and people with mobility issues.
Horse Fair Paddock, the grouped dwelling, is only a few yards from the crossing.
Once notified, North Lincolnshire Council, the highways authority, doesn't normally take long to attend to the lights.
We are pleased to report there were no 'overnight' lorries parked in Old Courts Road early this morning but there was a good deal of slippery pigeon poo about on the pavements as we walked through to Wrawby Street. Some action on this issue by the authorities would be very welcome - at least as far as we are concerned.
I spy with my little eye.... something beginning with St...
St Patrick's Day cards....on sale in the Wrawby Street card shop. There's a sign in the window to tell people. We had no idea such cards existed. But why not?
St Patrick's Day is coming up on March 17, in case you were wondering.

Re
1. The x-ing lights...seems to me to be a fault with the electrical supply cable, rather than the
lights themselves...
2. Pigeons..most birds are innately worried by a hawk (or similar), or moving image of such...Anyone thought of projecting a moving image of a hawk onto a wall, or using one of those tethered commercial kites of a hawk that flutter about at roof-top level?
If one culls the pigeons, the surviving pigeons will only breed more and the pigeon population will be almost back to its normal number within a season...
Scare them and the flock would move somewhere else.
However, the basic problem is food litter...stop dropping such litter about Brigg..and the flock will move out....
BUT, pigeons are not 'rats with wings"...they don't carry any more diseases than any domestic pet....admittedly, their poo leaves a mess...but if the food litter problem is not resolved, for which the pigeons thrive on, and the pigeons are chased out of town...rats could quite easily assume a dominant group, scoffing the dropped grub otherwise not eaten by the pigeons...
3. St Patrick's Day...(March 17th)..don't 4got Brigg has a significant contingent of Irish...Nelthorpe Arm use to regularly have a St Patrick's Day...whether it was actually St Patrick's Day was of secondary importance... Anyway, my granddaughter is 1/2 Irish!!
4.Don't 4get St David's Day....March 1st......my paternal great gran was Welsh.....so I will wear a posy of shamrock, daff and a red rose on the appropriate.....if I go into Macdonalds I may even wear a thistle, if'll get me a free cheeseburger on St Andrew's Day (Nov 1st)......I think I qualify with having a first name of Scottish origin....
