BRIGG AREA SWIMMERS TAKE NOTE AS WE TAKE THE PLUNGE WITH A BIT OF NOSTALGIA

At the latest meeting of Brigg Town Council, in the Angel Suite, Coun Rob Waltham made reference to the swimming pool at the Ancholme Leisure Centre having to be closed for six weeks, in the near future, for improvement work.
Full details of the closure can be read here
Coun Rob was delivering his monthly report to the Town Council, on behalf of himself, Coun Nigel Sherwood and Coun Carl Sherwood, who are all members of the Cabinet of top-ranking councillors on the North Lincolnshire unitary authority that provides most of our local services.
Coun Rob is the Cabinet member for people, Coun Nigel oversees highways and neighbourhoods, while Coun Carl has a wide role that includes sport and culture.
Couns Rob and Carl also sit on the Town Council. Coun Nigel is not a member but often attends the monthly meetings, as he did the most recent.
They all endeavour to keep Brigg Town Council up to date with North Lincolnshire Council developments affecting our community.
It's not unusual to see Coun Rob logged on to this computer tablet in meetings, checking the latest information or pinging off emails to officers of the unitary authority.
The wonders of technology...
It's all a far cry from the days of dear Joe Magrath, former Town Clerk and Clerk to the old Brigg Urban District Council.  Decades ago - before the digital age - letters would be dictated, typed and sent  to Glanford Borough Council and Humberside County Council, requesting information or suggesting improvements in Brigg.
Equally, the Gentlemen (and Ladies) of the Press would attend Town Council meetings in the ornate, wood-panelled council chamber off Station Road,  return to the office the next day and use a typewriter to bash out the news on scraps of newsprint left over from the previous week's newspaper. (Crop-ends being the technical term for those old enough to remember the days of hot metal!).
In 2013 you can, if you wish, take the trusty laptop along, write the reports as the meeting progresses and post them straight to the web.  Or even use a mobile device like a Blackberry to the same end.
One welcome tradition has stood the test of time, though. From time to time we pop into a Brigg pub for an after-match pint. Just the one. Sadly,  we can no longer a bar at the Angel Hotel where many a good story was picked up in the past.
For the benefit of readers who chose not to follow the above link we wish to stress that it's only the swimming pool that's closing for repairs. All other facilities will operate as usual.
