SERVING UP TASTE OF WAR-TIME

Brigg Town Council today organised and hosted a special nostalgic lunch at the Angel Suite to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of World War Two, in 1945. About 70 people attended and enjoyed typical war-time fare, including stew and potatoes. Entertainment was also provided.

Has the Angel Suite ever looked better? All the staff's hard work certainly paid off when it came to getting guests In the Mood, to quote the popular war-time tune.

The concert party tucking in to their helpings of stew.

Mr and Mrs Llew Gudgeon enjoying the tasty fare. He is treasurer of the Brigg and District Branch of the Royal British Legion.

Brigg Town Mayor Coun Ben Nobbs with Mayoress Barbara Morris.

Mike Galvin with a fine set of medals.

Captain Rachel Webster, currently serving with 1 Rifles, alongside Coun Tom Glossop...with war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill getting in the picture.

Raising glasses to those who "did their bit" for King, Queen and Country! Those in the room who had done so were asked by the Town Mayor to remain seated.

The 1940's stew looks good.....but why are we feeding the yanks!!

Over-paid, over-sexed - they nick our wimmen, complain of warm beer and have boxes of nylons!!!

Hope they brought some chocolate and gum......and hot-dogs.

A totally inapropriate celebration held on a Remembrance Sunday.
Any other day of the year would be ideal, just not that sunday. Again it just shows the complete lack of respect Brigg Town Council have for the act of Remembrance

I would just like to point out to Andy that money from this event went to the British Legion and Help for Heros. As you can see by the pictures it was well supported by current and former members of the services. I personally think the event was respectful as a former veteran once told me on a Remeberance Sunday. We have two minutes silence; one to commerate those who didn't come back and one for those who did. This was an oppurtunity to celebrate all of those who gave to the war effort; as you can see the Land Girls where there in great number to.

The British Legion this year chose to hold an event featuring The Saturdays on Remeberance Sunday, because it raised awarenss for their cause with a younger demographic of people. We will never forget those who gave their lives, but we have a living monument to that era that should have chance to tell their story and ensure we never have to go trhough it again.
