CHILDREN PAY HOMAGE

Primary school pupils from Brigg planted crosses at the newly-refurbished Monument yesterday, in memory of those men of the town who paid the ultimate price in the service of their country. The annual event was again overseen by the Town Council and the service conducted by the Rev Knowles, Chaplain to Town Mayor Coun Ben Nobbs. During the service, the children, in turn, read suitable passages, via a microphone held for them by the Rev Knowles and Coun Nobbs. As well as the town's first citizen and Mayoress Barbara Morris, Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard and a number of Town Councillors were also present, together with the Rev Owain Mitchell, Vicar of St John's, plus some parents of the children taking part and school staff. The newly-reformed Brigg and District Branch of the Royal British Legion was represented by chairman Andy Moses and treasurer Llew Gudgeon, both wearing their service medals with pride. Brigg Police attended to ensure safe crossing of the A18 by all those involved.
