BRIGG HAS THE POWER

Twice in successive days we were driving out of Brigg - early in the morning when it was still dark - and  noticed white vapour drifting from a big new chimney on the power station construction site at Scawby Brook.
We thought this might indicate commissioning - or testing - of the new biomass-fired facility.
Then Coun Mike Campion imparted useful information during Brigg Town Council's monthly meeting in the Angel Suite.
Coun Mike, who represents the Town Council on a liaison committee connected with this project, suggested the plant, employing about 30 staff, would become fully operational within the next few weeks.
He also suggested that local people may start to see more lorries in the area.
So far we've only noticed a solitary lorry packed with straw bales. That was heading   along Bigby Road towards The Monument.
We can't say whether it was destined for the new power station. However, we've made a mental note to keep a look out for  straw-carrying trucks over the coming weeks.
The new power station has been built on part of the old Brigg Sugar Factory site.
