WW2 TALK WILL INTEREST MANY IN BRIGG

Brigg Blog doesn't usually include news items about events some distance out of town but we are going to make a worthy exception for this one, as our town pubs, during the Second World War, entertained so many brave RAF bomber crews from stations across North Lincolnshire. They were trying to relax for a few hours and forget about the dangers of flying missions over German-held territory.
Jack Harris OBE, a retired Wing Commander from the RAF, is to give a talk at St Denys Church, in North Killingholme, on Friday 7 November.
The village is welcoming back Jack, who flew with 550 Squadron out of RAF North Killlingholme in the Second World War.
Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), he will talk about his time there and his experiences as an RAF pilot.
The talk at St Denys Church will start at 8pm and tickets cost just £5 and will include refreshments. You can only attend the talk if you have a ticket. Buy your ticket from Kath Robinson on 01469 540271 or Mike Leeman on 01469 540795.
The airfield at North Killingholme is part of the Northern Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage project and was home to the famous Avro Lancaster.
Squadron 550 was one of the most effective Bomber Command and played an important role in the defence of Britain during the Second World War.
Margaret Price, Senior Tourism and Event Management Officer, said: “North Killingholme is delighted to be welcoming Jack Harris back to their community. He played a vital role in the Second World War and is seen as a hero. Jack has many stories to tell from his time in the RAF which will make for an extremely interesting talk.
“Don’t miss out on attending this unique event. Make sure you get your tickets in advanced though otherwise you won’t be able to attend.”
