Lloyds Bank in Brigg was open today (January 2). This branch is in Wrawby Street and still referred to as “the
TSB” by many of its customers.
There was a change of name to Lloyds TSB some years ago, and
more recently to Lloyds.
There was once a Lloyds Bank branch in Bigby Street, of
course, prior to the merger. The building is now used for retail
purposes.
The changing face of banking in a small market
town...
Some of you will recall taking a shilling to Glebe Road
school every Monday in the 1960s, to deposit with the then Trustees Bank – the
money being entered in large green bank books.
This was a very worthwhile scheme, educating youngsters about
the value of money and introducing them to the concept of saving and
banking.
The aptly named Reg STOCKS – in this context - was then the
headmaster.
Presumably the Trustee Bank saving-at-school scheme operated
in other Lindsey County Council schools across the district.
