KIDS' FOOTBALL STILL POPULAR AT BRIGG REC

Wondering why there were many cars parked down at Brigg Recreation Ground as we came past at lunch-time on Saturday, Brigg Blog stopped to investigate.
There was a youngsters’ football match under way, the players being cheered on by many mums and dads.
The referee was in full kit, so we presume it was a junior league game of some kind.
We didn’t have time to go to the touchline, explain who we were and show the coveted National Union of Journalists' Press Card (recognised by all Britain’s Chief Constables, no less). Nor did we have our valid CRB Certificate (Enhanced) with us in the car.
Sadly, these days, even as a full paid-up member of the Press, it’s unwise to take close-up pictures of kitted-out kids on a public park, in case someone gets the wrong idea.
Back in the 1960s, as boys, we played our Glebe Road School house matches on this same part of the Recreation Ground. In the 1980s it was also home to a narrow hockey pitch, on which Brigg Town 3rds and 4ths played their home games.
So many happy memories!

Controversial idea I thought I'd throw into the debating pot:

Sell-off part of the Rec for affordable housing. From the profit, improve the existing Rec facilities and develop addition rec/sporting facilities on the waste ground down Station Rd.
