Brigg’s Bill Brocklesby gave a talk on The Life and Times of Katherine Howard to March’s meeting of Brigg Amateur Social Historians (BASH) at Brigg and District Servicemen’s Club.
Katherine was short, attractive but was not well educated. She was brought up by the dowager Duchess of Norfolk. She had several relationships prior to moving to court as a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves. Here she was noticed by King Henry VIII. He divorced Anne and married Katherine. Her past was used to secure her downfall within two years. Charges of adultery were made against her and Thomas Culpeper and she was arrested and beheaded on Monday, February 13, 1542.
The next BASH talk will be on Tuesday, April 5, when Midge Giles will give an illustrated talk on Amy Johnson, Queen of the Air. It will be at Brigg Servicemen’s Club (8pm). Free admission – all welcome.
