DOES RAIL OFFER VIABLE ALTERNATIVE?

The withdrawal of the Wolds Villager service between Barnetby and Brigg from January 30 set me thinking about alternatives now available to those still wishing to come into our market town for a spot of shopping.
A quick search on the internet with National Rail Enquiries revealed a £3.30p return fare from the village to Brigg. Barnetby folk can board the 11.40am train at their station for the six-minute journey to Brigg.
Obviously they are then faced with a walk across the rather badly surfaced former station yard until reaching Station Road, from where it’s only a short distance to the town centre. Return journeys can be made at 1.37pm or 5.37pm.
The £3.30p cost is much lower than I was expecting, prompting the question: Will any Barnetby folk actually give the train a try, now the bus service has stopped on Saturdays? And will anyone within the rail business or our local council(s) be flagging up the opportunity to let the train take the strain?

.....but can you use a Senior Citizen's Travel Card on the puff-puff?

It would be even cheaper if they had off-peak fares, such as is normal elsewhere on a Saturday.

For example, Sheffield to Rotherham "Anytime" return fare is £3.30, the same as Brigg to Barnetby. Yet at off-peak that drops to £2.60. With a valid railcard, it is further reduced to £1.70. Which really is a good deal.

I emailed Northern Rail some time ago to ask why they don't have off-peak fares, as I am planning to travel to Grimsby by train at some point. So far, no response.

Couldn't get a gang of lads to bend the rails a bit and route it via Cary Lane, could yer, Scribs?
I think Brigg could have one of these Overhead Light Railways you see in Docklands in London. It's like riding a big dipper at the seaside, 'cept slower. It goes up and down and round about Canary Wharf and Greenwich - it's a bit like being in one of those Superman super city thing. It doesn't have a driver....it's all computerised. but they have very smartly dressed conductors.
Well worth a visit...shop at Canary Wharf....visit Greenwich MarItime Museum...Park and Observatory... Planetarium (Cutty Sark under wraps cos of fire) then take a trip on the Thames to the HP and back - if one has a Senior Travel card you get 30 percent off the ?£11 cruise.

Pity one can't catch a train to London locally!!
