EXTENSION PLANNED

Planning permission is being sought from North Lincolnshire Council to erect an extension to the front and rear of the property, loft conversion with increased ridge height and dormer, and new double domestic garage at Nicol Lodge, 3 Nicolgate Lane, Brigg. (That's the cul-de-sac opposite Sir John Nelthorpe Lower School, off Wrawby Road).

Query:
Was Nicol Gate an access to the C19th allotments, which is now occupied by St Helen's Road?
If so, who was Nicol?

How's this for a coincidence:
Went with some close friends on Sat to visit some students at Hull Uni. We had to pick up a young lady from a hair salon, called, 'The Hairdresser' in Hull Rd, Analaby.
The young lady's appointment card indicated that the manager was a
NIC HOLGATE!

The house called Nicolgate belonged to my grandparents Geoffrey and Frances Pigott. They lived there between approx. 1908 and 1962. When my grandmother was a young lady she was befriended on a cruise by a wealthy spinster called Miss Nicol, who paid for my grandparents to build the house. In acknowledgement of this act of extreme generosity they called the house "Nicolgate". The land now occupied by the houses in Nicolgate Lane was, I believe, originally part of the garden.
