BRIGG CHURCH SAYS THANKS

Brigg Town Council has received a letter of thanks from St John's Church after agreeing a donation for the purchase of a cooker, as part of  extensive refurbishment of the Church Hall, on  Bigby Street, which is used for a range of functions and events.

Can anyone tell me why St John's was called St John's?
Before St John's was built, there was a chapel of ease....in fact, 2 x chapels over the centuries, dedicated to St James.
When the Brigg Market Charter was granted, it indicated the ye olde Brigg Fair was to be held over the Feast of St James at the end of July...Brigg Fair was moved to August only after the Julian calendar was replaced by the Gregorian calender, displacing the fair by 12 days....
Poor old St James has forgotten for two reasons...!
