WE NEED TO RECORD BRIGG HERITAGE FOR POSTERITY

The only grade one listed building in Brigg - now part of Sir John Nelthorpe School.  The original  schoolroom was completed in the 1670s and went on to become part of Brigg Grammar School before the current comprehensive was established in 1976.
Coun Ben Nobbs suggested to Brigg Town Council that all local heritage sites should be "listed" to ensure  possible protection from development.
Efforts are being made from a higher level of local government to get towns, parishes, community groups and members of the public to draw up lists of things that are historically important.
Brigg Town Council has expressed an interest in getting involved with the "asset list" scheme and five councillors immediately put their names forward.
Coun Jane Kitching pointed out that groups like BASH - Brigg Amateur Social Historians - had people with extensive knowledge of the town's past that would prove useful. The same applied to volunteers at the Brigg Heritage Centre.
Coun Ann Eardley agreed, pointing to individuals in the town who had written books on local history like Bill Brocklesby.
We are likely to hear more in the coming months about Local Listing in North Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire Council's  Historic Environment Record
