POLICE PRESENCE COUNTS

It made me smile the other Sunday morning when observing a car driver coming through the Market Place pedestrian area from the direction of the County Bridge. He got as far as Scalini's chippie and then saw a policeman standing further down Wrawby Street, "protecting a crime scene" to use the jargon.
Needless to say, on went the brakes!
It's amazing what difference a visible police presence can make in helping to deter vehicles which have no just cause to be in the pedestrian area.
The Brigg and Wolds section of the official police website says: "Vehicles driving into the pedestrian area via Bridge Street and contravening the ‘No Entry’ sign continue to be a priority for the Brigg and Wolds Team.
"Patrols are still using the civic CCTV facilities and viewing recorded footage to assist with identifying offending vehicles for follow up enquires to be conducted where possible.
"It is also becoming increasingly evident that during the school summer holidays youths riding pedal cycles within the pedestrian zone is on the increase. The Neighbourhood Team are patrolling as and when duties allow and are dealing with people responsible accordingly.
"The North Lincolnshire civil parking wardens continue to monitor the parking of vehicles within the pedestrian area and the surrounding streets.
"Enquiries by Brigg Neighbourhood Team with members of North Lincolnshire Council are still ongoing with a view to looking at a long term solution to this priority."

It is interesting that the cctv cameras are allegedly monitoring offending motorists in the pedestrian area, but they seem incapable of recording, for example,-
a. the removal of Scalini's A-frame between 12 and 1pm one Thursday.
b. a street brawl in which an OAP's car's windscreen was smashed outside Brian's DIY.
c. an OAP's purse being taken - the victim and alleged assailant walked from the Market Place, down Wrawby Rd to Old Courts (passing several cctv's) but no images seemingly were recorded.
d. the incident of Onkan and Grandad's Shed shop click-on letters being removed - witnessed at 1am.

It seems that one has to telegraph the CCTV Operation Centre before a crime occurs for it to be recorded.

For example, if driving through Brigg centre - ignoring 'No Entry' signs etc are offences, why did Brigg TC have to request that the CCTV cameras monitor the situation?
The CCTV operators should have been monitoring the situation already - recordings kept and all the police and Brigg TC would need to do would be to review and extract existing info.
Ask oneself - if a car travelled down Scunthorpe's pedestrianised High St would it go unnoticed by the CCTV monitoring team?
Finally, from the numerous vehicles that seemingly use and enter Brigg's pedestrian area, may I ask how many drivers have received warning letters....and is the so-called monitoring having any affect?

..On a less serious note, has anyone else noticed the vogue/fashion for teenage lads to ride under-sized bikes. While riding such bikes, it seems an increasing fashionable trend
to wear a peaked cap, with the peak slightly skewed sideways?
Personally, they remind me of characters from the old 'Peanut's' cartoon strip!
