CONCERNS ABOUT NEW HOMES PROPOSAL

Brigg Town Council is objecting to plans to build up to 40 new homes on scrub land off Grammar School Road (close to the bridge over the M180).
Members of the Town Council’s Planning and Environment Committee made a site visit before debating the outline application.
Once back at the Angel Suite, concerns were expressed about flood risk in the area, increased traffic being generated along Grammar School Road and the ability of the sewerage system to cope with additional properties.
During the debate, reference was made to extensive flooding of the council’s allotments a few summers ago – the plots being next to the site being proposed for housing development.
Brigg Town Council is to express its views to the planners at North Lincolnshire Council, who will make the final decision on whether to grant permission.
Our picture shows the official planning application notice pinned to a lamp-post near the site.

The elevation of the site is higher than some of the long-standing properties in the immediate area.
The most significant concern that I have is increased volume of traffic along GSR...a road that is already super-saturated; has 3 school sites and in a fairly densely populated area of Brigg with only one feeder access/exit road.
A relief road to the west to join up with Atherton Way could exacerbate traffic volume on that road. A by-pass towards Brickyard Lane and Brigg Rd in Wrawby could be a partial solution.
There is a need to consolidate ideas.....ad hoc, opportunist building on various sites about Brigg is the answer.
