Tonight saw Barton Bike Night attract thousands of people from all over the region to Brigg's neighbouring town for the annual motor-cyclists' convention. It's not council-run but generated great business for traders and provided entertainment for many townsfolk and visitors. Hundreds with no real interest in old bikes still went along for the ride, so to speak!
Brigg used to have its own Bike Night in the Market Place. Not as grand as Barton's has become, but very worthwhile. Then it died, which was a real shame.

Yes, Bike Nights were good...but does Brigg need to emulate another town, particularly when the town is so close?
Do we really need to take a lead from Barton, Nige? Think for ourselves.
Copying is, however, a useful tool of improvement. For example, UK bikes remained basically the same for decades...all had split sumps and oil leaks. Then came the Japanese...changed the design, included a few novelties and made the bike a recreational item, rather than a tool to get to work and back.
The same has happened with tv's, cars and computers......it seems to be the secondary improvers who now make the bigger money.
Anyone, for example, thought of a 'Scotter Convention Weekend'?
Open up a few camping fields, have scotter related stalls, have 1960 music, have councillors wearing mod gear and throw in a weekend display in Brigg - hey presto!
Hopefully, most of the programme will be organised by scotter-related outsiders, Brigg and area will be offering the venue with additions.
If you don't want scotters, how about a sausage convention?
Lesson in local economics:
A day visitor will spend about £10..someone staying for a weekend will spend £50.

Maybe you meant we need a Skitter night . Skitter being a verb to skim across the surface of water , but I was thinking of a small dyke as in East Halton Skitter , the origins of which I don't have time at work to find out . ( There's a task for you) .
Alternativetly they could have a scooter night in Scotter where they jump over some of Scotters skitters with their scooters.
