GETTING A LIFT

There's a big, yellow crane positioned near the Angel Suite - about to lift something. Anyone know what it's all about?

This was an added extra to the Big Brigg Spring Clean week-end Nigel -
North Lincolnshire Council organisd the cleaning of the
rainwater gulleys at the Angel and the Angel Suite for this mroning.

On behalf of the Town Coucnil can I also record thanks to everyone who turned out for the Spring Clean, despite the heat; and to the W.I. and the Lions for excellent and much needed refreshments; North Lincs. Neighbourhood Services Team who have worked the whole week-end alongside the volunteers, and were a pleasure to work with; and the Env Agency for their work last week - litter picking from the river, and beginning on the first stage of a longer term project to repair the wharf wall.

Just for the record, the whole of the riverside from the railway bridge to the motorway bridge was litterpicked; the tow path from the County Bridge alongside Lidl was edged and weeded; Atherton Way was litter picked, as was the Town Centre, the courts leading off, the car parks; and the bus terminus area at Cary Lane.

And the icing on the cake was to see the river taxis from Brandy Wharf travelling up and down the Old River - watch the Town Council web site and facebook page to see the photos.

A fantastic community effort by one and all.

Thanks for that, Jeanette.

Everything looking spick and span, a credit to all the hard work. Does anyone know the route for the river taxi and if it is in operation. I fancy a nice quite trip up the Ancholme for a pint of scrumpy, sounds great especially in this weather.

A big yellow crane, eh?....I've checked me little book, Nige.
We have such species of Common Crane, Whooping Crane and even Blue Crane......but no Big Yellow Crane.
I shouldn't excite it too much, Nige....feed it some fish.

ALAN R. Don't know about the River Taxi, but the barge Amy Howson is going to the Brandy Wharf Festival over ?5th/6th June. It takes groups. Check it out on the Web.

Another possibility: buy an inflatable + electric motor and pay EA licence (non-swimmers + kids may need bouyancy aids)...DIY.

Overall, what's needed in Brigg is a decent landing stage/launching pontoon....positioned in the right place, this facility will itself attract river users.

Ken. We moved to Brigg from Spalding and they run a very successful river taxi from the town center to the Springfields Shopping outlet on the outskirts of the town. The ride takes approximately 30 mins and is priced at £5.well worth it to take a slow boat to Sprinfields. This is co-owned by the South Holland Council and private businesses. VERY successful. Any budding business people out there???????
