BRIGG BEER GARDEN WELL WORTH A VISIT

Further to earlier Brigg Blog posts about town centre beer gardens, here's the one behind the Woolpack, in the Market Place. The three-storey "Woolie" is one of our most historic hostelries and is now under new management.

As your talking about historic things, Nige...can I mention wool?
The major industry in England during the Middle Ages was the wool trade.....especially concentrated in eastern England, particularly Northfolk.
Symbolising the importance of wool to the economy of the country, the House of Lords' Speaker's chair has a bale of wool in front of it....it is called the Woolsack.
Wool was so important, the Battle of Crecy was principally fought to keep the English wool trade route open.....it wasn't until the Industrial Revolution that the focus of our economy changed...
