BRIGG TOWN FC 2 LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO 1 - EVO-STIK LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH

MATCH REPORT BY BOB TAYLOR
Brigg Town FC won two free kicks in the opening five minutes but the first was struck over the bar from a central position and the second was deflected into the goalkeeper’s arms to be collected safely. The visitors’ first attack came down the right wing but Luke Smithson’s cross was played behind the far post and out of play.  There were few opportunities either end as the two defences were in command but on the half hour, Joshua Nichol turned sharply on a ball played from the left wing to the edge of the area and his snap shot rebounded from the foot of the goal post. When Dynamo responded, Robert Norris worked his way to the goal line on the left but his cross into the goal area was blocked. Joshua Nichol struck another shot wide of the top angle after Jordan Thewliss had made a good run down the right wing. Then Ollie Fisher made a strong forward run before sending the ball out to Danny Buttle, who won a left wing corner kick but this was cleared after a foul was awarded against the goalkeeper. Two minutes from half time, Kris Nurse turned sharply on to a ball played into the Brigg goal area but Jake Turner saved well low down.
Dynamo started well in the second half but missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring when Jarrod Westcarr hurriedly shot wide of an open goal after Jordan Thewliss lost possession. Josh Nichol took possession of a throw in from the left wing to force a corner kick out of goalkeeper Kahil Mann-Kler. The opening goal came ten minutes into the second half when Scott Hellewell headed on a right wing cross for JOSHUA NICHOL to turn it into the back of the net from twelve yards out. Brigg then lost Ollie Fisher after sixty three minutes with a bad leg injury from Dean Gent’s high tackle and Loughborough were reduced to ten players. Six minutes later, PAUL ASHTON scored a second goal for Brigg with a fine volley into the roof of the net from twenty yards out.  Dynamo bounced straight back and reduced the arrears after seventy-one minutes when LUKE SMITHSON’S shot was deflected into the corner of the net. Despite being a player short, Dynamo took control of the game and created further chances as Brigg sat deeper but with eight extra minutes of added time played, the home team hung on to win all three points.
