BRIGG TOWN HOSTING SPECIAL CENTENARY FOOTBALL MATCH


A special centenary match is to be played in Brigg tomorrow to mark the 100th anniversary of the Scunthorpe & District Football League.
Brigg Town FC, as winners of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy for 2021/22, will be taking on College Wanderers - this season's unbeaten Division One champions of the local Saturday competition.
The game will take place at Brigg's EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns) on Friday, May 6 (7.30pm kick-off).
Spectators are very welcome for the showpiece finale to what has been an enjoyable season.
Friday's proceeds will go to the long-established Ashby Benevolent Fund which offers financial assistance to injured players.
Below are the final tables for the Scunthorpe & District League, featuring two Barnetby United teams and two from Brigg-based Briggensians.
The league will be marking its centenary season with a special dinner on Friday, June 3 at Heslam Park, Scunthorpe - guest speaker being Alan Kennedy, the former England, Newcastle, Liverpool and Sunderland defender.
