PLEDGE YOUR ALLEGIANCE TO BRIGG’S DIAMOND JUBILEE EFFORT

Brigg residents and organisations are being asked to pledge their allegiance to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations planned for next June.
Former Town Mayor Coun Ben Nobbs (pictured above during his year of office), Deputy Town Mayor Coun Carl Sherwood and Coun Rob Waltham have sent a pre-Christmas circular letter to organisations and residents, inviting them to attend the first meeting of the organising group for Brigg events.
Coun Ben has asked Brigg Blog to circulate the letter to a wider audience, and stresses: “Anyone is welcome to attend – not just members of organisations.”
Below we reproduce the letter in full and we’ve also scanned and attached the Response Slip that goes with it. It will be quite in order for anyone interested to print off and complete this Brigg Blog version.

Dear Colleague,

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, June 2nd to June 5th 2012.

This may seem a long way ahead but, if Brigg is going to hold any kind of event to celebrate this amazing anniversary, we need to be taking action now.
Some Brigg Town Councillors have been in discussions with a number of other Brigg organisations since July 2011 but — six months on — these discussions are still in the "early stages".
A number of Community Groups have already told me they would like to be involved in any planned celebrations so it has been suggested we form an "Ad Hoc" Community Group (a committee) with one purpose — to arrange an event or events to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Do you think any members of your organisation would be interested?
If so, we need a representative or representatives from your organisation to join this 2012 Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Event Organising Group.
Your representive(s) are invited to a first meeting in the Angel Suite on Monday, January 9th at 7-30 p.m.
Please, if you think any of your members may be interested in such an event, please arrange for someone to attend this first meeting.
BUT If you wait until your own January Meeting to find out, it will probably be too late.
What we organise is up to the group to decide.
When we organise anything is again up to the group to decide.
Note: We know that, as the late May (Spring) Bank Holiday has been moved to the first weekend in June, Lincsquad have moved "Adventure Challenge" to Sunday June 3rd and this will involve much of the Market Place for the whole of Sunday morning. {Brilliant Event — Hope you come and watch! }
If we get a good attendance at the first meeting, we will know it is worth continuing:
 If the meeting is poorly attended, we will know there is not sufficient interest in Brigg to put in the amount of time and effort that would be needed to arrange anything.
I hope you have a good Christmas and enjoy the New Year Celebrations but, please, do something about this as soon as you can!
Whatever your decision, please will you complete the attached response slip and return it to one of the addresses on the slip by Thursday, January 5th 2012.

Yours sincerely,
Brigg Town Councillor Ben Nobbs
Also on behalf of Brigg Town & NLC Ward Councillors Carl Sherwood and Rob Waltham
