BRIGG & DISTRICT WEEKEND SPORTS PREVIEW: TEAMS IN SEMI-FINAL ACTION

An important weekend is coming up in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League for Brigg Town and for the Hibaldstow and Broughton clubs.
Bottom of Division Three West and yet to record a 2022 win in this section, Brigg will host unbeaten leaders Haxey 2nds at the Recreation Ground tomorrow (Saturday, June 25) starting at 1pm.
Brigg and the Isle of Axholme village club have played each other on and off for more than 40 years, in various competitions.
One of the most significant encounters for Brigg came in August 2018 when they defeated Haxey by 161 runs at the Rec Ground to clinch the Lincs League Division Four championship. Liam Redmond (66 not out) and Matthew Bell (51) did well with the bat for Town.
Hibaldstow, who are currently fifth in Division Two and having a good season, entertain second-placed Normanby Park tomorrow.
Broughton 2nds will host Barton Town 2nds in a Supplementary Cup semi-final - these sides having topped their respective qualifying groups during the early weeks of the campaign.
Broughton 1st XI (Division One) do not have a league outing this Saturday.
Sunday (June 26) will see Hibaldstow visiting Barton Town for a Bob Welton Cup semi-final - this being a Lincs League knockout competition.
Broughton 3rds will be at home to Alkborough that afternoon in Mick Walker North Lindsey League Division Two.
Tomorrow (Saturday, June 25) will see the next Ancholme Valley Parkrun 5K starting at 9am from the Ancholme Way Bridge in Brigg and heading north along the riverside path.
Event 19 (held on June 18) attracted 100 competitors. View full details here...
Jonathan Turner has organised a 24-hour tennis event at the Rec Ground (from 10am on Saturday) to raise funds for the National Autism Society.
Local people are being asked to support this at Brigg Tennis Club.
